I've not had a chance over the last couple of weeks to sit down and totally immerse in an album to really give any recommendations lately. However, I've been testing out a few online streaming places, and have been very impressed with Qobuz, that I transfered over playlists to it, and I've been enjoying playing it yesterday, just getting the vibe of it. It sounds really great on my crap headphones and my studio Audio Technica set. Also sounds good coming through my stereo both at home and in the car.
So after the free trial, I may purchase it. It served me well on a long drive on the weekend.
Also I like that they are artist friendly and, as a Canadian, I'm supporting a France/Québec company.
Now, listening to just music streaming aside, I find that's not what I usually use these kinds of sites for. Sure the music is great when I'm upstairs at my computer and don't want to go downstairs to put a record or cd on, or I'm in the car, or I'm using my older Blackberry phone for the day, and I don't want to take up the limited space on it with music to play at work. It seems how I like using these sort of sites is to explore music. To sample music that I want to buy or discover something new without spending money on something, only to find that record I bought because of the interesting name and art, isn't what I'm into.
I also like using them as a way to explore music from artists that you always hear around, but dig into their earlier stuff. Bands that always sounded very pop and had that one hit wonder in the 80s, like say...OMD, ended up sounding very much experimental and interesting aside from the usual song that gets played "If You Leave." It's a great song, but once you dive into what some bands did before that big song, you get to see, that most times they sounded different. Sometimes more raw and less polished in a very good way before they signed a record deal, which was know, back then, meant sometimes the death to the artist's creativity as they were sometimes forced to make songs listenable for the radio at the time.
So in conclusion, there is a lot of talk about people moving away from streaming music, and it's a great thing as a music collector myself, but if you find the ones that are not doing shady deals, and ripping off the artists, and take a stand against AI music, you can find they are still a great tool to explore music before you buy.
So with all that said, here are a few of my playlists if anyone is interested. I spent time curating them from my times on spotify and now they're going to be home on Qobuz.
Go out there and discover some music you never heard before.
Ok I think I shared way too many now. I just can't help it. I love sharing music I love :D
Have a great week everyone, and good luck exploring some new music!
